The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association has launched an on-line tool to teach adults how to read lips.
In-person lip reading classes, one of their most popular programs, can only accommodate ten to 12 people at a time. The online course allows more people to get involved.
The executive director of the local Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, Leon Mills, says it’s a social enterprise revenue generator for them.
He says the Dream Home is a major fundraiser, but they were looking for another revenue stream and learning how to read lips and communicate better has proven very popular.
He says lip reading can be challenging because some lip movements look the same for different sounds like P, B, and M. The program is made up of eight classes that include videos with short video clips of the eight most common lip movements from the front, and side.
