The province’s three teams may not have finished with the result they had hoped for, but the Toyota National Championships are being deemed a huge success.
The Jubilee Women’s trophy has been awarded to Quebec, while it was the first time the Fieldians Greensleeves club played in a medal game, ultimately finishing fourth after losing 1-0 to British Columbia in the bronze medal game.

Holy Cross Avalon Ford finished in 7th place.
Fieldians were also awarded the “Fair Play” award, while Holly O’Neill of Holy Cross won the award for most goals in the tournament.
In the Men’s Challenge Trophy competition, the Holy Cross Kirby Group finished fourth in the round robin, and will play in the 7th/8th placing match this morning at 10:00 a.m. in Mount Pearl.
President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association, Doug Redmond says despite their records, the weekend was a success.
He says the records may not truly reflect how the Newfoundland teams played, and anyone who saw them were very impressed.
Redmond thanks everyone involved who made it such a successful national championship weekend here in the metro region.
He says they’re proud to host the tournament, and when they see the calibre of play and officiating, it really bodes well for the sport.
The men’s championship game between B.C and Ontario gets underway at King George V at noon.
