There were no injuries following what officials are calling a “near miss” on board the Terra Nova FPSO.
Suncor says workers were completing a lift and were preparing to store the air hoist and trolley assembly when a sling failed.
The trolley, which weighs 200 kg, fell about 34 metres to an enclosure below.
While there was no one in the area at the time, the incident did have the potential for fatality.
The area was secured and the air hoist winch has been taken out of service.
Last month, a young man was seriously injured in an incident on board the Transocean Barents. The worker got caught between a rail and a steel adapter weighing 1,400 kg during crane operations.
