Newfoundland Power, the company which supplies most Newfoundlanders with electricity, takes the stand this morning at the Rate Mitigation hearings.
The Public Utilities Board began hearing last week from consultants and the company which manufactures most of our electricity, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.
Nalcor president and CEO Stan Marshall said most of the costs are “hard wired,” meaning they have to be paid for one way or another.
He assured that Hydro is doing what it can to keep costs down. Marshall will be in the UK this week to meet with GE about the Labrador-Island Link. The software being developed by GE for that system has not yet been able to perform the task of getting power to the island.
Newfoundland Power president Peter Alteen will give a presentation this morning. He told the Muskrat Falls Inquiry last winter that one of his main concerns was the reliability of the system post-Muskrat if the oil-burning Holyrood plant is taken out of service.
The hearings are expected to wrap up late this week with the board scheduled to make its recommendations to government by the end of January.
