A section of the TCH is reduced to one lane at this hour following a bizarre collision between a tow truck, the vehicle it was towing and a pickup truck.
It happened just after 1:30 this afternoon.
According to St. John’s Regional Fire Department Fire Captain Glenn Stamp, a tow truck lost the vehicle it was moving and then struck a third vehicle, a black pickup truck.
The back wheels of the tow truck became completely detached from the vehicle. As well, Tulk Tire and government officials were on scene to help mitigate the effects of a small fuel leak as a result of the crash.
A look at the distance between the tow truck and the back wheels of the vehicle. This section of road will be closed for another 2-3 hours. Traffic diverted onto team gushue. Access can be gained via team gushue on ramp. @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/KBDVSE1IXL

The driver of the tow truck was taken to hospital with what are believed to be non life threatening injuries.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted onto the team Gushue highway at this hour. Because the collision happened on the overpass before the on ramp, eastbound traffic is able re-enter the highway once again via the team Gushue.
The stretch of road is expected to be down to one lane for the next hour or so.
