The owners of the largest Newfoundland store located outside of the province are getting fed up with crime in the area.
Darrin Osmond is the co-owner of Freezerland Newfoundland Inc, a Newfoundland-themed retail store in Brampton Ontario.
Last year a brazen burglar threw a rock through the door and stole the cash register and other items. Osmond says the man was not masked and was easily caught.
The past Monday, a similar incident occurred. A burglar, this time masked, threw a rock through the window and stole the cash register. That man is still at large.

Osmond says you don’t often see a lot of police in the area, and thinks an increased police presence would help the situation.
He says they are doing everything they can to protect the business. They’ve hired a security company and are planning to install metal bars on the windows. He says they are trying to avoid closing the business, as they have loyal customers and are going to try to stick it out.

Through it all, Osmond was still able to poke a little fun at the situation. He says he thinks drugs are involved because they sell a lot of food, and the food is never stolen.
He says that’s how he knows Newfoundlanders aren’t the ones stealing, because the bologna and salt beef are always left behind.
