Premier Dwight Ball says he’s happy the provincial government can continue with plans to find a solution for rate mitigation with the federal Liberal government.
Ball says work continued throughout the federal campaign, and it will be nice to return to get back to the table with both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the federal Minister of Finance.
He says they’re looking for collaboration, and have spoken with newly-elected NDP Member of Parliament Jack Harris about the issue.
Premier Ball says the province will continue its work, and there is a path forward. There is a group of hard-working MPs from this province, which now includes Jack Harris for St. John’s East, which will work to benefit people and put in place a good, clear rate mitigation plan.
Ball says there is now a greater role for premiers to play in the current House of Commons, and sees it as an opportunity to further their work.
He says no matter their political stripe, premiers share the view of the people by whom they are elected.
When speaking with other premiers, Ball says they all expressed a desire to work more closely with the federal government to bring benefits to Canadians, regardless of who represents them in Ottawa.
