The company behind the Iceberg Alley Performance Tent is looking to have dates for the concert series set for the next three years, which they say will have positive effects on the capital city’s tourism industry.
Brigus Production company, which puts off the event every year, is seeking approval from the city for the next three years events, up to and including 2022.
They say many other festivals book talent two to three years in advance, which decreases rates and opens up the events to artists that may otherwise not come here.
The company says that by approving the events years in advance it opens up the door for national advertising, for increase in tourists to the province, for new artists to come here and for an extended tourism season.
The estimated economic impact of the festival is between $4- and $4.5-million annually.
St. John’s city council is expected vote on the matter tonight.
