The Canadian Coast Guard is giving crews a resounding ‘Bravo Zulu’—or well done—after they jumped into action when a sailboat ran into issues off the coast of Newfoundland.
At the time, JRCC Lieutenant-Commander Brian Owens told VOCM News that a 60-foot sailboat, known as the Salubrious, encountered trouble with both its mast and engine and went adrift.
The mobile offshore drilling rig Transocean Barents was diverted to the area of the sailboat and was first on scene. They passed along distress information to the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre in St. John’s, which then set to work coordinating the rescue.
The CCGS Captain Molly Kool established a tow line upon arriving around 3:20 a.m., and with the assistance of the CCGS Sacred Bay, safely escorted the Salubrious back to shore.
