Nalcor Energy has confirmed a spill into the Churchill River yesterday.
The company says 39 litres of Luminol, a biodegradable product that poses no risk to the river or wildlife, was discharged yesterday morning after an oil containment system failed to retain the substance.
A spill team responded to the site at 11 a.m. to commence clean up.
The pump that lead to the spill has been taken out of service. The cleanup is ongoing and the matter is under investigation.
