First power from Muskrat Falls to the island will happen early in the new year.
Nalcor gave an update on Muskrat Falls today, where they are having all kinds of problems getting power from Labrador to the island.
President and CEO Stan Marshall was in England to meet with General Electric where the software for the Labrador-Island Link is being developed. He says there will be a version of the software developed soon, and first power from Muskrat Falls should be going through in a few months.
Testing starts in November and power should be flowing from Unit One just after New Year’s.
It’s still unclear as to how long the Holyrood generating plant will operate after Muskrat Falls. Some observers feel that it will be a necessary piece to ensure a high degree of reliability.
Marshall says reliability is not absolute. That depends on what level of reliability consumers want.
As for the estimated cost of $12.7-billion, Marshall says the project remains on budget from the last update set in 2017.
