Council meetings at St. John’s City Hall have gotten a fresh upgrade, with the set up of a new webcasting service.
In an effort to improve accessibility to the goings-on at city hall, council will now stream its regular council meetings, as well as sittings of the Committee of the Whole.
The first stream hit the city’s website this week.
Mayor Danny Breen says the move is a major step in their mission to give greater public access to the Council’s decision-making process.
Archived video will also be available following each meeting.
The entire set up, including equipment and installation, cost the city about $160,000. The city expects a $40,000 cost for recurring annual software maintenance and support.
