A plane carrying some 250 people made an unscheduled landing at St. John’s International Airport today. British Airways Flight 253 landed safely at 1:10.
The plane, which was en route from Heathrow to Nassau, Bahamas was carrying 235 passengers and 13 crew.
St. John’s International Airport says it was a mechanical diversion but did not specify the nature. Reports indicate it may have been caused by a suspected fuel leak.
Crews from the airport’s fire department as well as St. John’s Regional attended the scene this afternoon.
According to British Airways, the flight has been delayed overnight.
