People who are behind the drive for a dedicated facility for those who are at the end-stage of life’s journey are preparing to call for proposals.
The Lionel Kelland Hospice will be a 10-bed community-based residential hospice at the Presentation Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor. Design work and architectural planning on the new facility is expected to be complete this fall with construction to start early in the new year.
The provincial government will put up $3-million while community fundraising has resulted in $880,000.
The hospice will be available free of charge to people province-wide and will include private residential rooms as well as all the necessary living amenities.
The Lionel Kelland Hospice, the first of its kind for the province, is a perfect example of the good things that can happen when communities, organizations and government work together. @CentralHealthNL @Johnrockdoc #GovNL pic.twitter.com/ivTuMMHxIz
