There has been a slew of construction projects in the capital city over the last few years, and all of that work has come with a hefty price tag.
St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen says that between 2018 and 2019 a total of $60-million worth of work on capital projects has been completed.
The city has spent about $30-million, the province has contributed about $20-million, and the federal government has spent between 11 and $12-million.
Breen says he is amazed at the amount of work that has been done. He often jokes that the city is one street away from having to shut down. He says when you look at the work that has been done on streets, sidewalks and retaining walls it has been a good year for capital projects.
Meanwhile, the construction on Kenmount Road, which began over the summer, is expected to be completed this month.
