There was a full house at the Rooms Theatre last night for the premiere of a local documentary titled “Fifty Nine Steps to the Crow’s Nest”.
The documentary takes a look back at the history of the Crow’s Nest Officers’ Club, a now National Historic Site where naval officers would come to grab food, a drink and good conversation in a safe environment in the midst of WWII.
The Club opened its doors on January 27th, 1942 and it hasn’t changed much since then. The walls are covered in art and artifacts that evoke memories of those who have and continue to serve our country.
Director and producer, Jon Sturge says it’s important to share these stories.
He quotes the film and says “history is our collective roots”. He says that as Newfoundlanders and Canadians knowing our history will unite us both as groups and individuals.
Sturge says he plans to release the documentary in 2020.
