As the provincial government awaits the results of the two-year Muskrat Falls Inquiry, it is actively developing the Terms of Reference for a Search and Rescue inquiry.
The inquiry stems from the tragic death of 14-year-old Burton Winters of Makkovik in 2012.
The young boy was on his way home on snowmobile, but became disoriented and eventually abandoned his snowmobile on the sea ice. He walked 19 km before succumbing to the cold.
His death sparked public outrage after it was learned that no search and rescue helicopters were available at the time he was reported missing.
The Department of Justice says it anticipates that the Search and Rescue inquiry will be smaller, more focused and less costly that the Muskrat Falls Inquiry. $33-million was set aside for the Muskrat Falls Inquiry.
The aim, according to government, is to establish the new inquiry as soon as possible.
The department says an inquiry into the Humber Valley Paving controversy will only be considered once other inquiries are concluded.
