The growing number of seniors are being seen as an opportunity to address gaps created by a shrinking workforce.
That’s the topic of an older workers’ summit getting underway tomorrow at Memorial University’s Signal Hill campus.
Seniors Advocate Dr. Suzanne Brake says more and more seniors are re-entering the workforce after retirement. The province’s aging demographic means that many employers are struggling to find workers to fill the gap.
Brake says while some seniors find they need to continue working for economic reasons, others have the experience and skills that are needed, but the workforce isn’t always age-friendly.
Despite that, seniors often don’t feel welcome. Brake says the conference is about bringing together employers and employees to address the issues this new situation presents.
