Residents and visitors alike once again have access to stairs down to a popular and historic part of Harbour Grace.
The newly refurbished Colston Cove Stairs, winding down to the beach near the Conception Bay Museum were re-opened to the public on the weekend.
Museum Chair, Pat Collins says the stairs were first built by the founders of the museum in 1975, Jerome and Pamela Lee and “Mack” Lee.
The stairs down to Colston’s Cove were built to recognize the brother-in-law of Cuper’s Cove founder, John Guy – a man by the name of William Colston. Collins says Guy and Colston off-loaded some salt there in 1611 on their way to Bay de Verde.
Since then, it’s been a popular gathering place for visitors and residents alike.
