The outgoing president of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador says that new federal wastewater regulations remain one of the most pressing issues facing towns in the province.
It was one of the key topics at the Premier’s Forum on Local Government at the St. John’s Convention Centre yesterday morning.
Tony Keats of MNL says that it is crucial that wastewater regulations get sorted. Keats says one strategy is to double the gas tax to create funds to get the systems up and running in order to meet federal criteria.
Keats says that the pressure that has been placed on communities to fix the issue has been overwhelming.
