The province’s Minimum Wage Review Committee is turning to the public for comment and input as it prepares to report to government on possible changes to the way minimum wage is set and implemented.
Community activists and public sector unions argue that a $15 minimum wage will help lift people out of poverty and is good for workers and business because more people will have disposable income.
Some business groups have expressed caution about a $15 an hour minimum wage, citing tight margins and challenging economic conditions.
The committee says it’s seeking input form a wide range of interests and invites the public to participate by completing an online questionnaire or making a written submission.
The provincial government this year announced the formation of an Independent Minimum Wage Review Committee to report to the minister with findings and recommendations on the current adjustment process for setting the minimum wage and the wage rate.
