You can expect to see discussions around Airbnb regulations this spring in the House of Assembly.
That from the Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation at this weekends Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador Conference.
Bernard Davis says there is an interdepartmental committee with members from Municipal Affairs, Environment, Finance, Service NL, as well as his own department.
He says right now municipalities can already place a business tax on Airbnb operators, but further regulations will help municipalities in this process.
Davis says he wants to make sure that owners of short term rental accommodations are being taxed fairly. He says it’s about getting the job done correctly, rather than fast.
