The Community Garden Support Program launched in April 2019, and is an initiative to increase food self-sufficiency, access to fresh foods, and consumption of fruits and vegetables.
Government says over 3,500 people of all ages and backgrounds took part in the Community Garden Support Program since its launch.
Since April, the department of Fisheries and Land Resources has approved 101 eligible applicants. Government says it has helped establish 23 new community gardens, and enhanced 78 existing community gardens.
Community groups, organizations and municipalities and local service districts were eligible to receive up to $500 annually in a non-repayable grant for food production activities.
