Baie Verte RCMP have arrested and charged a Burlington pickup driver after he allegedly pointed his firearm across the highway at some moose – it was the second such incident in the region since the hunting season began.
The 59-year-old man was charged with careless use of a firearm after an incident on the main highway leading into the community late last month.
Police received a complaint that a man travelling on the highway pointed a rifle from the driver’s side window of his pickup across the opposite lane when he saw moose on the other side.
No shots were fired.
The accused was released from custody to appear in court March 3.
Police say it’s the second incident on the Baie Verte Peninsula this hunting season involving a person charged with careless use of a firearm for hunting from a vehicle.
