The annual Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival is changing dates.
For decades the musical festival has been held in the first weekend following the Royal St. John’s Regatta, something Executive Director of the Folk Arts Society Erin Whitney says hasn’t been sitting well with them for some time.
The @NLFolkFestival board has voted to change the dates of the festival in 2020.
The festival will run July 10-12th in Bannerman Park.

She says they’ve long been concerned about what would happen if the Regatta, which is held on the first Wednesday in August was ever delayed.
Whitney told VOCM Morning Show co-host Gerri Lynn Mackey they’ve set the date this year for July 10 to the 12. She says a Regatta delay of even one day would have an impact, because they share a lot of the same services and infrastructure.

As for weather, Whitney says there really isn’t any way to predict it, regardless of the time of year.
She says if weather delays the Regatta, that compounds the effect on the Folk Festival.
