It looks like the single-use plastic bag ban will be in effect by the middle of 2020.
During a town hall session at the Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador Conference this weekend, St. John’s Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary asked the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment about the status and time line of the ban.
Minister Derek Bragg says there is no exact date in place right now, but says right now it’s looking like mid 2020 will be the end of the plastic bag.
Bragg says right now the province is still working out regulations and allowing time for the industry to adapt to the changes and phase out the bags.
