All grocery orders bound for the north coast of Labrador will be transported on the next trip of the Kamutik W following delays caused by some of the worst fall weather the region has seen in recent years. Labrador Marine was responding to concerns about recent service disruptions.
The Woodward Group of Companies issued a release this morning indicating that the vessel will be departing Thursday or Friday of this week.
The winter supply of food will be in north coast communities by the end of November.
All remaining freight will be delivered within the next two to three weeks.
LMI President and CEO Peter Woodward says despite severe weather conditions, their schedule is ahead of both 2017 and 2018. Last year, the Astron’s final trip was December 14.
He says the service has faced the most challenging wind conditions in recent years with delays caused by two hurricane-force storms this fall. Seas this past weekend peaked at 30 to 36 feet.
The company says there will likely be some damage to goods that were held up at Makkovik during a recent trip. Labrador Marine says it will resolve claims to the customer’s satisfaction as quickly as possible.
