Minister of Transportation and Works, Steve Crocker got a workout in Question Period this afternoon, fielding numerous questions about roadwork and infrastructure across the province.
Transportation Critic Barry Petten kicked off the flurry of questions surrounding roadwork and the money spent in Crocker’s district of Carbonear-Trinity-Bay de Verde.
Petten asked Crocker how he could justify spending $10-million on roadwork in his own district this year, while only a fraction of that amount in many others.

Crocker responded by pointing to the $11-million spent in the district of Placentia West-Bellevue.
Crocker says they’ve spent some $140-million on roads throughout the province this year, and it’s something he’s very proud of—also highlighting safety improvements along Veterans Memorial Highway.
He encourages everyone to use their online portal to give their input on roadwork for 2020.

Petten was fired up, saying it was ‘disgusting,’ and that they weren’t fooling anyone.
Paul Dinn brought up the need for road improvements in his district of Paradise, before Helen Conway-Ottenheimer brought up similar concerns. It all came back to Crocker being able to justify the money spent in his district, with others struggle.

Opposition MHA Pleaman Forsey also raised concerns about lighting on the Sir Robert Bond Bridge in central, while Crocker faced pressure over a new school in Mobile.
The House will take a break from sitting next week, before it opens for the final week before Christmas on Monday, December 2.
