A blast of wintry weather is taking aim at parts of the island today.
According to Environment Canada meteorologist Rodney Barney a mixed bag of weather is going to be moving across the island from south to north today.
For most of eastern Newfoundland it will be rain with between 30 and 50 mm expected, but as you move westward the main story will be snowfall.
The hardest hit area will be in central, where Barney says between 15 and 20 cm of snow can be expected.
He says the system will come with strong winds as well. Gusts between 60 and 80 km/h are possible over Southern and Central Newfoundland, which combined with heavy snow could mean power outages.
Those on the west coast will see a mix of wet snow and ice pellets at times, but according to Barney there will be much less of an impact, with snowfall totals only reaching up around 5 cm.
It looks as though the Northern Peninsula and Labrador will miss the system entirely.
