One of the last living members of the Newfoundland Rangers has passed away.
The Ranger Force served in Newfoundland and Labrador prior to Confederation.
Corporal Richard Noel enlisted with the Rangers in 1947 and became a member of the RCMP when the Rangers merged with the Mounties after Confederation.
His service began with three years in Nain as the lone Ranger on duty there.
He then served in St. John’s in Customs and Excise and then in Clarenville after his promotion to Corporal.
That leaves just three original Newfoundland Rangers still alive.
