Illusuak, which means “sod house” in English, will serve as a centerpiece for the community, allowing Inuit the opportunity to gather and strengthen connections to each other and to their culture.
The building houses a permanent exhibit aimed at broadening Inuit history, culture, traditions and shared experiences.
It also includes a multi-purpose theatre and gift shop.
Parks Canada will also occupy office space in the building through a long-term lease agreement that is part of a $2-million dollar contribution to the project.
