By the way things are looking for senior hockey, the Herder Trophy may not happen this year.
President of the Eastern League and General Manager of the St. John’s Caps, Jack Casey says unlike many rumours, it is not all to do with teams not wanting to travel.
That in response to an uproar about teams not wanting to travel to central NL for the Herder.
He says it would make more sense to see senior hockey categorized as “amateur hockey.” Many people in central are paid to play the game but eastern teams are not. Many of the players need to take time off work and from their families to participate in games.
He says it all boils down to a decision to be made by Hockey NL.
A final decision will be made in the near future by the organization.
