A social work student with Memorial University received a special gift for her work with the Canadian Mental Health Association Justice Program.
Jillian Ingerman was given two hand-made boats from some of the inmates she worked with at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary.
Ingerman says the boats are made out of materials like cookie boxes, lollipop sticks and paper towel. The boats were coloured with coffee and molded together by powdered milk, toothpaste and water.
Ingerman says the men found a way to be creative with using every day items they would have access to.
Her placement with the Justice Program is almost over, but Ingerman says her time with the program has been “out of this world.”
Ingerman says it’s the little things that mean the most. She says receiving these gifts has been really special and that she will be displaying the boats proudly in her home.
