A group at Memorial University is researching the myths and misconceptions about cancer in the province – and they want the public’s help.
Study lead, Dr. Sevtap Savas, says it is important to figure out the stigma and discrimination about cancer patients and survivors.
She says Cancer affects the lives of many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians and more needs to be done to make them feel comfortable.
The next step in the group’s research is to speak to people in this province about their experiences when it comes to social stigma around cancer.
Savas says they are offering an online survey and the data is being collected anonymously. So far, she says, they have heard from a good number of people.
However they need around 200 more participants to complete the study, and they need to do that soon so they will have time to analyze their findings.
