A helicopter with 11 passengers and two crew on board had to return to St. John’s today after a problem developed in the aircraft’s hydraulic system.
Cougar Flight CGR151 had an indication of potential pressure loss on one of its redundant hydraulic pressure systems while en route to the Hebron Platform.
The aircraft has multiple independent hydraulic systems and can fly safely with one system inoperable.
The helicopter returned to St. John’s and landed without incident. The Cougar SAR helicopter was dispatched as part of normal safety protocol, and emergency crews were on stand-by.
The C-NLOPB says the measures taken are all standard precautionary measures, and the affected helicopter will undergo repairs and be returned to service.
Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board were both alerted to the event and the C-NLOPB is monitoring ExxonMobil’s continued investigation.
