Online Purchasing Safe Exchange Zones are officially open at all RNC locations across the province.
The safe exchange zones provide two parking spaces near the entrances of the the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s public buildings, where those who are exchanging goods through online services can meet to complete a transaction.
Many people aren’t comfortable giving their address, meeting with strangers, and online sources often invoke fear of fraudulent activity or theft.
With those concerns in mind, Constable Mike Hollett worked with different municipalities like St. John’s, Mount Pearl and CBS to launch the concept, which is used all across the country.
By using the zones, you can stay near headquarters where there is a high police presence and CCTV footage monitoring the spaces.
Constable James Cadigan encourages people to use their headquarters’ public access areas as well, to make the exchange.
He says it ensures safety in a controlled environment, but the RNC still encourages people to make these transactions in daylight.
