A nation-wide test of Alert Ready hit the airwaves today.
The latest round of test alerts were issued this morning over television, radio and to compatible wireless devices at 10:55 a.m. Newfoundland Time, and 10:25 a.m. in Labrador.
Emergency management organizations across the country are conducting the test through Alert Ready—the national emergency alerting system. Alert Ready is used to notify the public about public safety incidents, such as fires or natural disasters and Amber Alerts.
Since the system was launched, no actual alerts have had to be sent out in Newfoundland and Labrador. However, Ontario has already received 47—including 16 Amber Alerts and 33 tornado warnings.
Not everyone will receive the test alert on their phones for several reasons, including device compatibility, connection to an LTE network, software, and settings.
