A man on the Burin Peninsula is in a heap of trouble with the law after choosing not to stop, despite the lights and sirens of a police car behind him.
Police were on Ville Marie Drive in Marystown in the wee hours of Tuesday, when they noticed a car with a burnt-out tail light. The vehicle sped away and turned down a dead-end side road, where officers saw it parked in a driveway.
They suspected that the driver—a 32-year-old man from Marystown—was impaired by drug, so they got a blood sample at the hospital in Burin.
Several hours later, at around 11 a.m., police got a warrant to search the vehicle and found illegal cannabis.
The man is facing charges of impaired driving, flight from police, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He was released to appear in court on January 15.
