A local man has launched an online petition to have the city of St. John’s change the New Year’s Eve fireworks back to midnight.
Chad Curnew says the fireworks are meant to go off at midnight to welcome the new year.
The city shifted the annual fireworks to 8:00 p.m. to make it a more family-friendly event, to a mixed reaction. Curnew says there wasn’t anything preventing it from being family friendly before.
Curnew says the city should be sticking to tradition.
