Parents of students at Bishop Feild Elementary in St. John’s are crestfallen after learning a crossing guard will not be provided to help students navigate the busy Rawlins Cross area when they return to school in January.
Rhona Buchan provided the update on VOCM this morning.
She says councillor Sandy Hickman gave them some hope in conversation yesterday, but she received an email this morning indicating there won’t be one.
Mother Clipped by Car While Walking with Child
Parents say the area is dangerous and fear for their children’s safety. Cristallynn Oliver, above, was grazed by a vehicle while on a crosswalk on Rawlins Cross in broad daylight over the summer.
The scary part, Oliver says, is her 7-year-old son was with her at the time.
Luckily, her son, who was holding her hand, was walking on her other side. She says other cars in the area leaned on their horns to alert the driver, but he went on.
