A 47-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after a terrifying ordeal in Dildo Wednesday evening.
Wanda Pretty was rushed to hospital in St. John’s to undergo emergency surgery after being attacked and mauled by two large dogs.
Ken Pretty says his wife Wanda was walking home from her mother’s house Wednesday evening when she was attacked by two large dogs. The animals grabbed her by the arms and pulled her down while she was still in her mother’s driveway, causing numerous lacerations to her arms, a fractured wrist and a massive gash to her leg.
Pretty says he dreads to think what might have happened had his mother-in-law, who happened to see the attack from her home, not scared the dogs off with her screams.
He says his wife remains in hospital, and is expected to undergo more surgeries to repair the damage.
A nurse told Wanda that the damage could have been far worse had she not have been wearing a heavy sweat shirt and parka at the time. Ken says the RCMP are investigating and the dogs will be put down. He expects it will be some time before his wife’s physical and mental scars are healed.
