Outgoing Memorial University President Gary Kachanoski will be retiring from his role on a positive note, having received a clean bill of health following a cancer diagnosis this summer.
Kachanoski posted a statement on the MUN Gazette thanking those who showed him support during his chemotherapy for a form of lymphoma.
He says the treatment was successful, with no detectable lymphoma cancer remaining.
Kachanoski offered a special thanks to provost Noreen Golfman and others who stepped up while he was undergoing treatment.
Kachanoski remained active in his role as president during his treatment, taking time off when needed and avoiding public appearances. According to medical advice, he will resume a full schedule on December 10.
Last year it was announced that he would finish his term six months earlier than the original date. Next month, he will conclude his second five-year term as President of MUN.
