The leader of the NDP says their motion which passed in the House of Assembly yesterday will bring about democratic reform in a non-partisan manner.
Alison Coffin says the previous all-party set-up was done by a government with a majority. The new process will be done through a select committee which will report to the House, not a minister’s department.
Coffin says the previous committee was biased in favour of government.
Democratic reform will look at things such as voting age, funding of political parties, the role of third party groups in election campaigns, and the timing and date of an election.
