The provincial government has passed legislation that will help support a national class action against opioid manufacturers and wholesalers.
The Opioid Damages and Health Care Cost Recovery Act’s goal is to hold accountable companies that manufacture and distribute highly-addictive opioids for their role in the current opioid crisis.
The bill helps to strengthen Canadian governments’ negotiating position and promotes certification of the class action.
Newfoundland and Labrador is one of a number of Canadian provinces and territories seeking a resolution with Perdue and other opioid manufacturers.
