A single-vehicle crash in the east end of Mount Pearl sent one person to hospital last night.
At about 11:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to the intersection of Topsail Road and Blackmarsh Road after the driver of a car lost control, crashing into a light pole. The lone occupant of the vehicle, a man, was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. The force of the collision caused moderate damage to the pole, and extensive damage to the car.
Traffic was slowed in the area as crews worked, and as the wrecked vehicle was removed. Roads were wet with some patches of black ice at the time of the crash.
This incident was one of several over a twelve-hour period, as emergency crews responded to collisions and crashes throughout the metro region. Falling snow and dropping temperatures made for slippery conditions, which kept first responders busy.
