A protest has taken to the Coachman’s Cove Branch on the Baie Verte Peninsula over access to high-speed internet.
The group says they are still without access to the service, despite what they call numerous promises from government.
Jackie Walsh of Coachman’s Cove says they are blocking all the Bell Aliant contracting trucks that are in the area from installing high-speed internet in the neighbouring community of Fleur-de-Lys.
Walsh indicates they were promised high-speed internet in Coachman’s Cove by MP Scott Simms—but to no avail.
Last week the community was stuck without internet for four days. Walsh, who works on a computer, was largely halted from her work. She was left having to drive to Baie Verte just to check her email.
Walsh claims the drivers of the Bell trucks were very patient, and understood their situation. However, the group has had enough.
Walsh reiterates that Coachman’s Cove has been passed over many times for many things—including roadwork. She says something has to be done about the internet situation, or lack thereof. A promise was made, and the group is calling for it to be kept.
Walsh says she’s heard from MP Scott Simms, who tells them that government is looking into it.
