Purple lights shone bright on a tree at David’s Park in Mount Pearl to remember 24-year-old, Cortney Lake who was murdered in 2017.
This is the third Annual Tree Lighting and Cortney’s mother, Lisa Lake, says that still not enough is being done to stop violence against women.
She says the change has to start with government.
Lake says there are still women and girls going missing and being murdered. Lake says he wish every year since Cortney went missing is that this time next year there will be no more names and unfortunately the names are adding up.
Lake says it’s the support from those around her that keeps her going.

Christmas was Cortney’s favourite season, and Lisa Lake says she will keep coming back to remember her daughter and light the tree purple for as long as she is able.
