The Throne Speech in Ottawa is done, but don’t expect any motion of confidence to come up in the House of Commons this week, according to one political analyst with Abacus Data.
Tim Powers claims the Throne Speech can be a confidence motion. Given the current minority government situation, it could topple. However, Powers says not to worry.

He says the Bloc Quebecois are going to pass the speech like they’ve already told Trudeau and the country, though the Conservatives and NDP hold a different view.
Power says they have a week of parliament to take care of before finishing up on Friday, until the end of January.
The Conservatives aren’t happy that the Throne Speech didn’t include much on Western alienation or the TMX pipeline.
While the speech briefly mention Newfoundland and Labrador—by means of referencing energy and its importance to this province—that was the extent.

Meanwhile, one thing that is supposed to be announced this week before the House of Commons closes its doors until after the Holidays are middle class tax cuts, at least to some degree.
Tim Powers says first they’ll find out what middle class means, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau created a Ministry of Middle Class Prosperity when announcing his Cabinet.
Powers hopes there will be a definition on the middle class in a sense of who may benefit from the tax cuts government plans to bring forward.
