Students in 30 schools across Newfoundland and Labrador are being given the opportunity to participate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities as part of their curriculum, thanks to Brilliant Labs.
Brilliant Labs is a non-profit technology platform that focuses on hands-on learning.
Vanier Elementary in St. John’s is one of the schools that has installed a “MakerSpace” in their school. Students can use that space as part of their classes to learn about measurements, technology, and other life skills.

Executive Director of Brilliant Labs, Jeff Willson says students this generation will leave their schools with experience and many crucial skills under their belts.
He mentions that although the skills can fit into the current curriculum, there is nothing explicitly stating that a student needs to learn those skills.
Willson says they want to give students and teachers a way of knowing what they’ve learned over the years, and Brilliant Labs is developing a method to track that.
These students are making video games!
One of them has created a game where Santa’s sled drops presents down chimneys 🎅🏼 pic.twitter.com/Xr1ZcHwf0k
