A 54-year-old Salmon Cove man is facing a number of charges following an incident that saw numerous police vehicles swarm United Church Cemetery in the town earlier this morning.
At around 8 a.m., Harbour Grace RCMP received a report of a man who damaged a vehicle with a weapon in Salmon Cove and left the scene on foot.
Police located the lone man, who was still in possession of the weapon at the United Church cemetery. Officers set up a perimeter of the area in the interest of public safety.
The man was taken into custody with the use of pepper spray and was brought to the hospital for medical treatment shortly after.
The 54-year-old now faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief by damaging property and a breach of his probation order.
He was held for court.
